Corporate Carbon Footprint

The data required depends on the organisation’s activities and the scope of the calculation. Activity data such as fuel and electricity consumption, refrigerant refills, vehicle and transport data, purchased goods and services and waste quantities may be needed. We define the data set according to your activities and assess together which of your existing records can be used.

ISO 14064-1 and the GHG Protocol are the two core frameworks used to calculate and report corporate greenhouse gas emissions. The GHG Protocol offers a comprehensive approach, particularly in classifying emission sources under Scope 1, 2 and 3 and in evaluating Scope 3 categories, while ISO 14064-1 provides a more structured framework for building, reporting and preparing a greenhouse gas inventory for verification. Depending on your needs, we assess the requirements of both approaches together and determine the calculation and reporting methodology that suits your organisation.

A carbon footprint calculation is generally updated annually. The base year is the reference year against which you will make comparisons in the future; when the method and boundaries remain fixed, the change between years reads meaningfully. We choose the base year together with you, based on data quality and your organisation’s targets.

Independent verification is carried out by authorised auditors and verification bodies; we do not carry out verification ourselves, we prepare your greenhouse gas inventory for it. Whether verification is needed depends on where you will use the inventory: your customer, your financing institution or a regulation may ask for verified data.

A greenhouse gas inventory provides the basic emissions data for sustainability reporting. CBAM, on the other hand, requires a separate calculation method at product and facility level; the facility and energy data in a corporate inventory is a good starting point for that work, but it is a separate task from the corporate inventory.
